Corn starch and water makes an awesome goo because it appears to be a somewhat solid but then turns to liquid in your hand. Dumb thing I remember using in science when I was a kid.

I would suggest getting this book. The book store has all kind of books on science recipes. I remember making all this wonderful stuff for my preschoolers to play with in daycare and I was glad to have a book that contained all the info for me. I was always losing my recipes and this way it was all in one spot. Things like homemade gack, goop (out of constarch and water-the toddlers and babies both loved this and it won't hurt them, homemade sand modeling clay.

Go to the PBSkids.org website. Click on zoom. They have great ideas. My preschooler loves playing in water at the double sinks. I give him cups and boats and sometime add a hint of food coloring to the water. He loves it. He knows what colors make green and purple too.

I'm taking a child care class in my HS and we are suggested not to use sand. Might I suggest beans, rice, water, or shaving cream?!
