Surface cuts, like paper cuts, hurt a lot because there are lots of nerves near the surace of the skin (nerves that help us feel things, sense temperature etc...) so when you get a surface cut it cuts through all the little nerves near the surface and so sends pain signals to your brain.

Deeper cuts hurt less because they generally go directly though the skin (cutting a small amount of nerves) instead of slicing across lots of the skin at an angle (like paper cuts, cutting through many more nerves).

Surface burns hurt a lot for the same reason and deep burns are said not to hurt at all by some people simply because all the nerves have been burnt away so there is nothing left to send the pain signals to the brain.

Pain receptors in the skin ( called " Nociceptors" ) are located in the top layers of the skin. If you were to cut deeper, you wouldnt feel a proportionately larger amount of pain, since there are less nerves there.

Thats why second degree burns cause shock & agony .
But third degree burns are often not felt by the victim. Because the skin has completely burned through, along with the layer containing most of your pain receptors.

It hurts because, unknown to most people, a majority of paper ingredients are comprised of animal waste (poop). The animal dung in paper causes a reaction that can lead to infection, and the bacteria from the animal waste is why your wound has a burning sensation.

Coz they tend to go in at an angle, interferring with more pain receptors than a straight down cut.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

because our nerve ending are close to the surface of the skin and cuts that are not very deep hurt more.
