It's best before date is today, it was already brown in the packet before being cooked and it smells a little, what should I do - cook it or throw it out?

Of course it's ok to eat. Those best before dates are always a bit on the cautious side anyway. Meat always smells!

Anyway, when you brown it and then cook it on it will kill many pathogens that might exist.

I think people in general are totally wimpy nowadays about stuff being "off".

Eat it - it's fine!

If you're worried at all, chuck it out.

Be aware, though, that just because meat is brown, doesn't mean that it's gone off. The colour of meat changes on exposure to the air, which is why aged steaks are a darker colour than fresh steaks (they're also more tender, more tasty and easier to digest). We're used to thinking that fresh meat should be bright red, but meat that colour probably hasn't aged enough and won't taste of anything - and there's no point in eating meat at all if it's not yummy.

Smell is a better guide. Fresh mince shouldn't have a strong smell. If it does, don't eat it. You don't want what might be living in there taking up a new home in your gut.

There's an exception: game should smell slightly dodgy, as it has to be aged for several days before cooking. If a piece of raw venison doesn't smell ever so slightly farty, it'll almost certainly be inedible.

Mince is one of those meats that you just do not risk if it smells as it is beef. If today is the date it is up then bin it your health is not worth it you will be visiting the toilet all night in one end out of other. You can try and cook it as mince will smell really really bad if it is off and being cooked the heat brings the smell out more.
Have something else to eat if I was you

Minced beef is best cooked on the day you buy it, or freeze it straight away. Don't think yours is going to be any good.

how good is your fridge? How often do you throw out off milk? If not very often, your mince is probably fine. But it depends what it smells of.

Cook with a LOT of chilli?

you pregnant? Don't risk it.

I can't believe your asking this unless your extremly poor and can't afford any other food. I would suggest throwing it away the smell should be enough to put you off.

Throw it sounds like very bad meat.
