Since when we need the government to protect our jobs, how about competing for them. If you can show as an American that you can do better job than illegal immigrant any employer will not think twice before hiring you. Stop whining to the government and ROLL your sleeves and go fight for your rights by working harder and more productive than "cheap labor" being American does not gives you the right to a JOB.

Does that apply just here or everywhere?

It doesn't apply everywhere--nor anywhere that I know of.

Working harder and being more productive doesn't seem to, well, work.

"Workers in the United States are putting in more hours than anyone else in the industrialized world."

Lawrence Jeff Johnson -- the chief labor market economist who has led the ILO team in producing its new "Key Indicators of the Labor Market 2001-2002" study -- also says American workers are, per person, more productive than their counterparts in other countries."

"American workers have been remarkably productive in recent years, but they are getting fewer and fewer of the benefits of this increased productivity. While the economy, as measured by the gross domestic product, has been strong for some time now, ordinary workers have gotten little more than the back of the hand from employers who have pocketed an unprecedented share of the cash from this burst of economic growth.
What is happening is nothing short of historic. The American workers' share of the increase in national income since November 2001, the end of the last recession, is the lowest on record. Employers took the money and ran. This is extraordinary, but very few people are talking about it, which tells you something about the hold that corporate interests have on the national conversation.
The situation is summed up in the long, unwieldy but very revealing title of a new study from the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University: "The Unprecedented Rising Tide of Corporate Profits and the Simultaneous Ebbing of Labor Compensation - Gainers and Losers from the National Economic Recovery in 2002 and 2003."
Andrew Sum, the center's director and lead author of the study, said: "This is the first time we've ever had a case where two years into a recovery, corporate profits got a larger share of the growth of national
income than labor did. Normally labor gets about 65 percent and corporate profits about 15 to 18 percent. This time profits got 41 percent and labor [meaning all forms of employee compensation, including wages, benefits, salaries and the percentage of payroll taxes paid by employers] got 38 percent."
The study said: "In no other recovery from a post-World War II recession did corporate profits ever account for as much as 20 percent of the growth in national income. And at no time did corporate profits ever increase by a greater amount than labor compensation."
In other words, an awful lot of American workers have been had. Fleeced. Taken to the cleaners."

Screw that, I am not going to go out and work harder than an immigrant and get paid the same thing. The problem is that there are illegals out there for hire that will do a job and get paid nothing for it. They live 10 to a house to be able to pay their rent. We do need to do something about illegals, not just ignore the problem.

Employers should only be able to hire LEGAL workers at LEGAL wages!

So what you are actually saying is the job market should be open to the entire world ? That children who work in India from age 9 and up should have the opportunity to apply to clean houses, mow yards, is that what your saying according to where you come that section of laws are ignored because everybody should have a chance you can't discriminate against that work force since it's a way of life there

You're right america doesn't give you a right to your job, unions do!

Also, we have a higher cost of living than the average Mexican, don't ya think?
Perhaps a few pesos more for a place to live, something to drive, food to eat, water to drink, etc?

The real American values are; get what you can get while you can get it. We are taught that everyday by commerce, successful individuals and politicians.

Wake up and smell the coffee grounds!

You are absolutly right being an American does not make you entitled to a job, but and it's a big but they (the illegals) do make it harder to get a job.

First question I'd have to ask is are you an American? Secondly.. you mean you'd work for the same wages as an Mexican? You must live in a really low income area if you can rent buy or own a home and buy food on those wages. You are truly a great American.. congrats to you and your famly.

Agreed. However being an illegal immigrant who is willing to work does not give you the right to illegally enter this country, take a job that could be fulfilled by a citizen, send your earnings back to wherever you came from, and while you are here take advantage of the social services that we taxpayers provide and/or have a dozen kids that you expect us to feed and educate at taxpayer expense.

If you want to come over here and work, welcome. Get a green card and pay your taxes like everyone else!

We don't mind the competition,we do mind unfair competition. The person hiring most illegals isn't looking for quality work, hes looking for a body for a lawn mower,a shovel,a dish washer,he doesn't care and if he can get 3 bodies for the price of one hes going to take it.That's not fair. The skilled people don't hold fear of competition, they have a marketable service, they are good at what they do...they are not the ones hollering about taking jobs. The people who are the most needy in the US are the ones getting their jobs taken away. The least educated, the less skilled or with no skills at all. That's the problem ,not what you are talking about at all.

I totally agree. Stop Whining. Edify a Work Ethic. Go back to school so that you aren't competing for these menial jobs.

It does give you the right to a job over an illegal. Since when does coming to a country illegally give you cart blanch on everything here.
