will take her baby from her if it showed up on her test at the hospital? But in the state of NC do they for smokeing marijana while pregnate? i know they do for other drugs, but i know lots of people that did smoke while pregnate and was on medicade and they dident do anything like take the baby.so now im kinda curious if they really do. i mean its wrong and it is neglectfull and id probably tell her that regaurdless if it was true or not . but is it really true it is still a illegal drug

They only test at birth if the baby is showing signs of prenatal exposure to drugs. If the baby tests positive the baby will be given to Social services and mom will have to complete a drug rehab program while the baby is in foster care. It can take over a year to get the baby back. It doesn't matter if it's pot, cocaine or herione. This happens anytime drugs are found in the babies system.

I live in NC. If the doctors have reason to believe that the your sister is taking drugs or was taking drugs while pregnant then when the baby is born they will drug test him/her. They will also test the baby if the baby is showing signs of drug use. According to the test results they will notify social services and then they will step in and decide what to do. I would say that more than likely if the baby tests positive then social services will take the baby for sure. Good luck!

Regardless,being true or not I would find it really hard to believe that there is a state in the US that would say its ok to smoke pot while being pregnant seeings that is is illegal. The only way that it is legal is for medicinal purposes only and pregnancy is not one of them. It is very irresposible of her to be that selfish and put her child's health at risk so she can get high. I do know you can contact social services and tell them what is going on and they CAN take it from there. I think it is good of you to stick up for your neice or nephew regardless what it may do to your relationship with your sister. Someone has to watch out for that baby.

yes they can take a child if the child tests positive for drugs.... pot can take a long time to get out of the system so you tell your sis if she wants to keep the baby to stop... she could have that baby at 24 weeks and if the child tests positive she will not have that child.... you never know when the child is going to come into this world...

First of all, you are obviously more intelligent and caring than your sister and I am proud of you for trying to protect the baby. YES, it is illegal to smoke pot in NC whether you are pregnant or not. YES, it can harm her unborn child. Please do what you can to make her stop, even if it means telling social services.
