Jeremiah still foretold the sufferings of the Christ through his own sufferings.

If you're referring to the suffering servant that's Isaiah, not Jeremiah.

But, be that as it may, the vast majority Jewish scholars for the last 2500 years do not equate the suffering servant with the Messiah. Why? Because the suffering servant is clearly identified as the nation of Israel (ie the Jewish people, not the current State of Israel).

That said, not only do Jews think the Messiah will be human, but that he must be. What Jews don't buy into is the concept that the Messiah will be (or has been) God in the flesh.

The Jews of that time knew the Bible well, in the original Hebrew. And yes, the Messiah is supposed to be human. Believing God has blood relatives smacks of paganism.

Sure, they knew, alright.
They know today.
The problem is that they are looking for a human, earthly Messiah, that will restore the Kingdom of Israel, and make Israel the queen of nations, with their Messiah as King.
They still believe that is going to happen, one day.

I wonder what they think will happen when their new David dies, as all men must, sooner or later?

Oh Yes! They knew very well.
The Jewish teachers were very well schooled in Prophesies concerning Jesus.
The problem is, The Jews were expecting an earthly warrior king who would put the enemy to the sword and rule over a prosperous kingdom. Then to make it worse, Jesus started condemning the Jewish teachers...this time he went too far...Savior or not, he had to die.

Everyone knew who Jesus was. They chose to reject Him because of pride.
