Everytime I start to like a guy, and I tell my mom about it, she always gives the "Now he may not like you." speech everytime. I'm already scared enough to say anything to a guy before hand, but then she gives that speech, and it makes me feel horrible, and want to give up. What can I do to make her stop with offending her?

Presumably, she doesn't really want to make you feel horrible. She obviously is trying to relate SOMETHING to you, and it's something very important to her. But there is clearly a communication gap going on. If you can resolve this gap, you will BOTH be happier.

So I would recommend trying to find out what it is she is really trying to say. If you can demonstrate to her that you are aware of her advice, then she has no reason to give it to you. Instead of her lecturing you, you just need to recite to her so she can feel comfortable with the whole affair. But exactly what recitation is necessary may take some probing. Or, if you know already, she may actually be immensely relieved to learn that you DO know what she is trying to say.

At some level she knows she can't control you, so this kind of domineering dialogue is all she has. Show you're understanding and responsible and it all probably goes away! Yay!

Be honest with her, calmy tell her how you feel and ask her why she says that every time. Come up with a reasonable compromise. If that doesn't work tell her about the guy after you have already talked to him--so in other words include her after.

She's obviously playing mind games with you and is problalby controlling as well. I wouldn't say anything to her, period.

tell her how it makes you feel when she says that, i'm sure it must make you feel unconfident about yourself.
