Yes, but it is costly.
The only way I can have dental work done is totally knocked out.
Call me crazy, but I am dental phobic.

Most dentists can NOT put you to sleep for a root canal. You would have to ask your specific dentist if he/she is trained adn certified to do this.
Root canal is not the horror that you are imagining it to be. It can hurt, maybe 1 out of 10 times. That 1 guy where it hurts probably waited until the tooth was already really killing him before he went for treatment. I tell my patients that root canal treatments are like teenagers. 9 out of 10 are no problem at all, but you always hear about the bad ones.

Choose the sedation if you need it and the dentist can do it. By the way, Michael M is a little misguided-many root canals, including molars, can be started and finished in one appointment.

Yeah, but it's a choice, usually.
I was put out and had all four wisdom teeth pulled at the same time.
Actually, I wasn't really out.
I was given a thing called twilight sleep.
You're still able to respond to the dentist, but you have no recollection of anything.
I woke up lying on the couch in the dentists vestibule.
I was told I walked there on my own with their direction, but I have no recollection of doing it.

Yes... let him or her know that you are really scared about it and would rather be knocked out for the ordeal. It does have side affects - like any other anesthesia does - and you will still have pain in your gums afterwards - but the dentist should give you a prescription for happy little pills to take the pain away!!

Yes, but often you have to pay for the anesthesia yourself because insurance won't cover it.

Yes, but a competent endodontist does not need to do that.
