What are your specific views on beings from other solar systems? Because on the one hand, you'd think Atheists would believe that the universe is too big for just us, but on the other, Atheists usually won't believe in something until they see proof.

It's surprising to me that so many people are apathetic about this subject. Makes me feel like a nerd :( If other lifeforms were discovered, it would change our entire view on life. History would be rewritten, and all that ****. It seems to me like something that people should show an interest in.

Mk, let me also add this. I am Atheist. So, if we could all stop calling me Christian, that'd be great. I am an Atheist that believes that life on other planets it very possible (NOT little green men), and I was wondering about other Atheist views.

Life exists here, so it seems logical that life exists on other planets, too. You can be an atheist and still look at it that way.

Edit: Looking down at some of the other answers on here, it confuses me how people are associating a belief in God with a belief in ET life. Believing in life on other planets is logical because life already exists on THIS planet, and there are trillions of planets, so you put two and two together and it seems pretty likely. But non-Christians aren't skeptical of God solely because they can't see him; they're skeptical because they can't see him AND because the concept is illogical. That's the difference.

Speaking for this athiest, alone...

It's kind of a "wait and see" thing. I mean, as Carl Sagan observed, ours is an awfully big universe, and if life evolved here then there's at least the possibility that it could have evolved elsewhere.

On the other hand, we don't seem to have any proof, one way or the other, yet.

Personally, I don't feel the need to either "believe in aliens" or "not believe in aliens" right now. My beliefs are based on believing in something when I feel that there's good evidence for it, and it's rational to do so; right now, I don't think there's good evidence either for or against aliens. Just having a big universe doesn't prove anything.

I believe 100% percent. I have about 20 of them run through my yard every day. Why can't they just stay in Mexico? I am still mad at G W Bush for giving them amnesty, but he is a moron, so what do you expect................but if you are talking about beings from another planet, it is possible. Atheists don't have to see it to believe it. You just need enough logical proof of it. Is it possible that in other galaxies there could be maybe bacteria? Sure it could be possible, as the conditions needed to produce life could easily exist on other planets. I have not seen enough evidence for their existence, but believe in the possibility. You can't prove something does not exist. So things must be proven. Therefor, based on everything, I would say there are no aliens..

While I don't believe the alien stories that people seem to pull out of their a$$es, I do believe that it's a good possibility that there is life on other inhabitable planets.

Can I ask, what is the Christian outlook on aliens? Since the Bible says that God created the Earth and everything on it and said it is all for us then why would he need to go off and create another world?

My belief is that, with the billions of stars in every galaxy, and billions of galaxy's out there, common sense tells me that something else must be out there. Not human, just some kind of life. I dont think aliens visit Earth. But the odds are for life being out there somewhere , besides earth.

Kind of like being an alien agnostic

Hmm is this a trap? If we say its possible are you going to try to drop something on us along the lines of what if your god was an alien, or if we believe they are real why not believe that something else is out there? Well anywho, I neither believe nor disbelieve. I guess its possible that however this world came to be (in a scientific sense) that it happened elsewhere as well. But if there are aliens I'm sure they are not supernatural in any form, they would probably be similar to us.

~~ First, google Drake's Theory so you have some numbers to work with,,, then consider the fact that it takes the speed of light about 100 yrs just to pass from one end of our Milky Way Galaxy to the other. And there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the beaches and deserts of Earth,,, this should give one an idea of the probability of life on other worlds,,, and that is limited by our knowledge/concept of what "Life" is. ~~

I am not interested because I am absolutely certain that there is no intelligent life anywhere we can reach.Say, 1000 light years away

Life is an accident of inconceivably small probability. Intelligent life is an infinitesimal part of an infinitesimally small probability.

By the way, it is not correct to divide people into atheists and religious. They are rational or irrational.

well, there is a probability that there are beings from other solar systems etc, and yeah sure, i'm not going to believe it until i see it. but i'm not sitting on my *** not researching the topic. if you believe in something, or not believe, you have to know why. currently scientific evidence shows plenty of probability, but no definite proof, so i'm keeping that area open, until there is proof.

It doesn't matter to me if they exist or not. I wouldn't say that I believe they exist, but given that we know the universe is a lot bigger than just our solar system it is possible.
