It isn't just Creationism. People believe in all sorts of wacky things, for all sorts of reasons. If you find the subject interesting (and I do :), you might try reading The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan or Why People Believe Weird Things by Michael Shermer.
Personally, I think that people cling to irrational beliefs because they have some sort of emotional stake in the matter. Their self-esteem, or world-view, or some important part of themselves depends on their being right about X, in this case, Creationism. And so, when you show a Creationist proof that their views are wrong, they aren't simply being challenged mentally/scientifically, but they feel completely threatened as a person. The emotional reaction allows them to hide themselves from what they're being shown, or come up with some lame new counter-argument, or whatever other evasion they try.
Also, there are some people who just don't respect science all that much. They think that any given religious theory (or, at least, their own ;) is on par with scientific theories backed up with experimental evidence and research. Most of those folks were raised with a distrust for science and so they usually don't invest much of their personal research in it. For instance, I used to date a girl from a fundamentalist (and creationist) family; her father, an elder at their church, discouraged everyone at the church from taking biology classes outside of church-offered/sanctioned classes, because biology classes are "filled with lies." It's hard to be convinced by science if you don't believe in things like logic, evidence and proof.

Serious answer:
Is your definition of Creationism basically the biblical account as noted in Genesis? If it is, then it is a religious belief. So in what follows, think philosophy and science and maybe general theology.
Assume:
1. A creator is an undefined God. You cannot prove which religion is the right religion.
2. You can have good reasons to believe in a Creator, or even a God, but you cannot prove it.
Questions:
1. The universe cannot be uncaused. If it had a beginning, then the matter, the energy, the all occurred for some reason. If as scientists calculate, the big bang is a singularity in space and time, well, that begs some deep philisophical questions. How and why did it happen?
2. Evolution, scientifically, at its base is defined as something that changes genetic code, over time: "Evolution" defined as a change in the frequency of alleles in a population from one generation to the next. The mechanisms are random mutations and natural selection.
However, based on that definition, natural selection must have a starting point to select something from. A lot of biology has to be in place first. How did this happen? No one has a clue. I'm from Missouri, and the jury is skeptical.
3. How can inantimate matter end up as living, conscious, thinking, matter. If you can look in a mirror and see your consciousness, I can see my soul.
The point is that, you are welcome to believe in a cold, dead, and materialistic universe. I look at the facts and believe in a purposeful, life giving, created universe.
If you are a random quirk of nature, then in the grand scheme of nature, your life is meaningless. Sure you like your life, as may others. But, it matters not if you live or die. Tell your child when you have one, that their life is meaningless, in the grand scheme of nature. I dare you.
If a creator exists, then, a creator creates for a reason. Thus, this provides fundemental justification for the sanctity of human life, from conception to its natural end.
There are good reasons to believe that a creator exists, in my view.

Let me ask you this, when someone has a disease that no amount of medicine can cure, yet they overcome it and live through it, how does that make sense? It doesnt have to make sense for it to have happened. Miracles can happen. Anything can happen really. When scientists say that creationism isnt real I say how do they really know? They werent their. They base their answers off of a guess or what they believe. It goes both ways. Nobody has proof what really happened. I say why sit around and argue about what happened and how we were created or came about. Sounds like a big waste of time to me. Everybody just believ what they want to believe and leave it at that.

Hey girl.. I am glad that you are not posting this as in a ruse to get people upset.. so lets talk about this... First you have not researched the data on both sides you are greatly mistaken... You have trusted what some professor has told you and that is all that you are interested in hearing because you think that is truth. I argued with a guy on here at least six time a day and when it all boiled down to it it came out that he trusted what some (heavily biased agenda) research guy told him and would not even consider the facts...

How can anyone believe that one time there was a "big bang" and ever thing fell into place. The earth starts going around the sun and the moon starts going around the earth and ever thing just happen. You talk about being stupid. I have some beach front property in Tennessee I would like to sell you. You have bought into Satan big lie. In fact the book you hate calls you a fool. Psalms 14: 1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I have not seen any data that proves evolution. On the contrary, there is lots of scientific data out there that shows the chance of evolution is less than 1-1,000,000,000,000. I do not have enough faith to believe in evolution. Find the book Buried Alive by Jack Cuozzo. Or read the Great Alaskan Dinosaur Adventure. People went to Alaska and found unfossilized dinosaur bones.

An analogy to Creationism: If you were walking through a forest and found a computer chip on the ground, would you believe it had an itelligent designer or that it evolved through a series of random events? To Creationists, your view is the less logical one. Have a nice day.

Evolution and Creation both require faith: Neither one can totally be disproved or proved( even though the evidence is strongly in the favor of creation). I do not be live in creation because of what is said in some science textbook, but because i read that God created the world in six literal days, and that Death was not present until after the seven days of creation( on the seventh day God rested), you see the bible tells us that death was the result of sin. After Adam our first ancestor sinned, sin and death were passed to all men( Romans 5:8). Because of this the Bible tells of God's promise to send a savior and that through him we would be redeemed from our sins. Well that Savior has come and his name is Jesus Christ. He was born of a virgin.( Some today would doubt this but do doubt the power of God?)He lived a perfect life because he was 100% God and 100% man. When he was thirty-three years old he was crucified for crimes he did not commit. Cruxiction was a horrid death, but on top of that the Bible tells us that " He who knew no sin became sin for us." He was dead for three days and rose again on the third day!!!!! He is the answer to all the problems of life. All that you have to do is accept his free gift of salvation. If this is not true, if creation is a falsehood, then Jesus Christ really was just a man, but i am here to tell you that it is true, that Jesus really does saves sinners, not not just because i read it the Bible, but because I know the change that has taken place in my heart. Please accept him before it is too late

Hon, I believe in Creationism since, to me, it makes just as much sense as Evolution. Until I meet someone who was there when the earth was made, I will go by the bible. They are both theories, neither one has been proven as scientific fact. Not even Evolution is a fact.

Beats me. They just shrug off any evidence as a lie concocted by everyone in the science business. Notice how they say "It's just a theory", like a theory in science means that it's a "what if" scenario.
