As always, when dengue cases surface in Delhi, media creates a sense of panic. How accurate is the fear?

dengue is really among the minor killers in Delhi. Some of the leading causes of deaths are actually heart diseases, TB of different kinds, diabetes and asthma to name a few.

Perhaps what makes dengue deaths seem particularly tragic is the fact that simple measures to curb mosquito breeding can prevent their occurrence. But that's just as true of other mosquito borne ailments like malaria, and filariasis, which are much bigger killers, globally and in India.

In any case, please take the following precautions:

Check for stagnating water

Remove broken flowerpots, old discarded tyres and clean coolers regularly

Use mosquito nets

In case of fever, see a doctor immediately.

Don't take Aspirin/ Brufen. Paracetamol is the best medicine.

Take a blood test in case of symptoms like rashes, fever, fatigue.

Dengue lowers count of white blood cells and platelets.
It is not contagious.
The mosquito is most active during dawn till 11 am, and at dusk.

Last I heard it was safe. If you are going to India you should see the Ba'Hai Lotus Temple. it is very beautiful. I wish you a good journey...
