Haydn was known to have played in a street band in his younger years in Vienna. What kind of instruments would this band have included? Or, if you at least have an idea where I might be able to find this information, that would be helpful as well. I have searched several places online, as well as my textbooks at home. Thanks for any help!

That's a hard one. Hmmmmm

My guess would be easily held instruments such as the violin, and maybe a trumpet, clarinet, flute, horn. Think of what a classical orchestra entails and go from there. It's possible that they could have set up small groups around a pianoforte in the street. Then they could have had a piano quintet or something. Possibly a brass quintet. Not sure.

Anything Haydn might have used would have been an older form of the instruments we used today. If he was to have formed a street band, you would most likely have a recorder or early predecessor to the flute. There is a possibility of a clarinet, yet I'm not sure it was emerged as a popular instrument of that time. By that time there were the various string instruments, so it is likely he used some of those. In the brass category, he might have used an earlier form of a trumpet, and possibly trombone or french horn. In truth, I never knew that they used street bands, but it makes a lot of sense. Definitely look into his orchestral pieces and see what instruments he favored- chances are he would have played with those.
