There's a product called Mucenex that works very well, and is available over the counter.

I was smoking for a long time, I smoked for more than 20 years until I decide to quit..
I was like him for a long time and one day after 5 years of not smoking I was coughing and something real ugly came through my nose, the most ugly thing I have ever seen, and this is that while smoking a lot of nicotine secretion make its way to the frontal head bone and fills it . The time comes when this comes down and you finally relieve yourself
Of course I am not a doctor, a serious problem could be avoided if a X Ray exam would be perform by a specialist..Hope your friend gets better...

If this started after he stopped smoking, it is normal to get a prolonged cough. It is the lungs way of clearing out all the tar and additives so that the natural lung cleaners (the cilia) can function normally again.

He really needs to see a doctor. If he wants to get rid of the mucus, it may be helpful to drink hot tea, and loosen up the mucus.

This is the body's way of cleaning house.

Is he eating or drinking dairy products? They are big mucous producers and should be avoided.

It is his body, cleaning up a mess. Let it go, and in time it will slowly get better
