Lung cancer has probably been known for hundreds of years. I'm not certain if anyone knows who was the first person who identified it as a specific disease. It used to be a very rare disease until smoking became very common and popular and the air in some cities became very polluted. Now it is one of the most common cancers. The best way to avoid lung cancer is to never smoke, or live with someone who smokes or work in a place where lots of people smoke. It would also help if you lived in a city with little or no air pollution.

The primary treatment for lung cancer is surgery or radiation. If there is any suspicion that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body they will follow up with chemotherapy. Unfortunately, lung cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat and cure so the best treatment is to never get it in the first place.

P.S.

I'm sure that if you do a Google search on lung cancer or check with Wikipedia you will find lots of information and other references. Also, check with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the American Cancer Society, and the American Lung Association.
