I have a stock 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 with the 3.0L V6. I'm looking to increase the trucks performance both in gas mileage and horse power. I'm interested in any enhancement whether it be a quick add on or a major change. Let me know what you've heard or have done yourself.

Ok first off, you will never get better gas mileage with more horsepower. Cold air intakes, throttle bodies, k&n blah blah blah. Keep the 400 bucks in your pocket from these worthless mods and put it in your gas tank. The cold air intake looks cool but sucks in hot air off the engine and w/ 4x4 you dont want a open intake system anyways. To truly make power save some bucks and go forced induction (ie: supercharger). Then once you are pulling alot of air you'll be ready to get rid of it, this is when an exhaust, headers and larger throttle body will prove some difference. If youre adding bigger tires you will gain back some punch with lower gears and most who have done this say gas mileage doesnt change enough to matter. If you need more information on this go to therangerstation.com.

2000 Ford Ranger enhancemants that will add another 50hp in the 3.0 flex fuel truck..................

First off save $$ on the cold air intake...they work minimally as the intake has two hoses that feed ho.t water into the intake to heat the intake up in order to raise air temps and keep them pretty consistently so the computer has to adjust timing lesser and maintain optimal gas mileage...

I used 4" PVC pipe with two 4x3" reduders and 2" slugs .........This seems to give the intake its best flow....It wasn't an easy task but I had to use the old rubber snokle tube to get it all to jive...I sill use the stock airbox too but its modified to flow more air with a K@N filter element

Jet performance module #80219 for 5 speed manual or 80220 .

I am the proud owner of a 2001 Ford Ranger with the Off Road package, and my dad drives a 2001 Mustang GT, and I can assure you that his Mustang rides better than my Ranger. Now whether to trade or not depends on what you are looking for in a vehicle. If you live in a snowy area or haul large loads, the truck, if it is 4X4, will be the better vehicle. If you don't live in a snowy area, and you don't haul large loads, then the Mustang will be a better vehicle. My dad's Stang does better on gas than my Ranger.

Some of the simpler things you can do to this truck is purchase a cold air intake (ram air or K&N) and an aftermarket exhast (flow master, magna flow, gibson, etc.) both of these can be purcahsed for anywhere from 200 to 400 dollars and will help your gas milage. As far as additional performace parts JEGS is a great place to look. hope this helps.

start with a cold air intake, some times you find a better throttle body, new (bigger) exhaust manifold with bigger pipes and performance muffler's, getting rid of the cat,
this is just a start...
o-yeah f.y.i. when you add performance parts you general get worse gas mileage sorry...
its one or the other!!!
