My one year old mutt dog is vary fast, and I'm trying to teach her to catch frisbees. I have taught her that it is all about fun playing, and she is not afraid of the disc anymore. She will jump and grab the disc from my hand if it is standing still, and she can catch it in her mouth if it flies straight, and only within around 10 feet of me. If I throw it farther, she runs after it, and is always underneath it, but does not catch it. Is this just an issue that needs practice, or is there something that I can do better in training her to be able to make better catches?

Increase the distances very, very gradually.

Work with her close up on catching at angles by flipping the frisbee at her right next to you.

Teach her a sit/wait and a command to "get" the frisbee.

Put her in a sit/wait (as opposed to a 'stay') and then hold the frisbee out and telll her to 'get it.' Gradually move back until you are tossing it to her and telling her to 'get it."

Doing everything in small incremental steps. Break it down into little parts and teach those.

Minpins at the instant are not in all probability the properly suited breed for retrieving or catching something. they have an extremely intense prey force, as they have been bred to seek vermin, and that's why your lady likes to play tug of conflict with you. maximum breeds play varieties mimic their breed characteristics. in case you prefer some thing difficult to do which includes your Minpin, why not attempt agility? there are various valuable Minpins competing these days. they are agile, muscular, keen, and straightforward to coach whilst food is in touch. The Frisbee is a lost reason.

Your dog is on the right track and so are you. I think you just need to practice more with the shorter ones she catches and gradually work up to the longer ones. Give lots of praise when she makes a catch

It can be really helpful to watch videos/tv shows of the "professional" frisbee dogs to see how their handlers move and throw the frisbee. They often have these shows on Animal Planet, and even ESPN.

Here is a good resource for everything related to dog frisbee:
