Do you know what a "par value" is?

Hint, when a company issues stock, it sets the initial value per share benchmark for its anticipated initial capitalization. If I formed corporation A with a million shares and set the "par value" at $1 per share, then I am assuming a potential initial capitalization of $1 million. If I formed corporation B with a million shares but a "par value" of 1 cent per share, then target initial capitalization is at $10,000. Considering what is in my bank account, I had probably better set a low par value or I risk looking suspiciously like incorporating a fraud--some states and countries expect you to cough up something along the lines of what you said you were going to do when you started the firm (sometimes the government gets a fee based on that or related values).

Assuming that your company just issued 2,500 shares and that target valuation was $100,000, then (B) $40 is the par value--assuming. But if you simply own 2,500 shares of something and your brokerage says the value was $100 k, well, you can't get there from here.

The par value of the stock is different than what the stock sells for. The par value is usually stated on the stock.
