Why is it on college campuses today, do the left leaning students feel the need to shout opposing viewpoints down? Is it they are not articulate enough to engage in basic civil debate?

Liberalism is a derivative of marxism. All marxism is basically the same....violent overthrow of peaceful, law abiding governments followed by genocide, mass poverty and eventual collapse of civilization. This is a repeating pattern you see in every place marxism as been applied without exception.....stalinism, communism, national socialism (nazism), socialism and now liberalism/progressive movements. Same people....slightly different type of insanity but exactly the same behavior. Why are you so surprised by shouting down other viewpoints? It's a prelude of what is to come (if we don't stop them HARD, that is)......jackboot wearing psychopaths bashing people's faces in (note that this phase ALREADY has isolated incidents among the democrats), people being rounded up in gulags....ovens. That's what these people want. It's what they talk about behind closed doors (or was it lost on people how much talk of getting rid of jews became popular on the Daily KOS).

Liberals are not well meaning, but misguided, slightly eccentric and rather dumb idealists. They are dangerous and evil. Until the current generation, they haven't felt safe engaging much in violence. But, they have worked successful to make sure that the western world does not intervene in the little matter of hundreds of millions of people cruelly put to death (and the rest enslaved) by various governments they idolize. There is an ocean of blood on their hands. Unfortunately, tolerance of them has emboldened them to act violently today. Still relatively uncommon, but in real danger of becoming pervasive and widespread, because they feel safe doing it. God help us if people are foolish enough to give them real political power.

This is the type of people who were at Columbia, recently. The reason they did it is because they knew that not one of them would be expelled for it, let alone jailed for assault and battery.

The leftist view is often the underdog view while the conservative is the complacent status quo. To take up leftist ideals you have to take action and be loud while to be conservative, all you have to do is relax and do nothing since these values seem to already be in place. Along with that is the idea that when your ideals are extreme, you have to shout extra hard. Both sides shout loudly when the thing they want is far removed from the status quo.

It isn't universally a left thing, obviously, look at fred phelps and his gang shouting at funerals about how gays are bad.

Let me help you out a little. There have been times in recent history, well within my memory, when the right minded government decided they wouldn’t tolerate dissent. Look at what happened at Kent State University in Ohio on May 4, 1970, it became so noisy that no one could be heard over the government shooting at the American students who were peacefully protesting the war.

This was a great example of a republican president who didn’t understand anything outside of his self created small circle of advisers. Today we have a similar mindset in the whitehouse, and it requires raising voices of dissent if a message is to be heard in today’s political environment.

That's not a liberal thing, that's a young ideologue thing.

Young people who are strongly polarized to one side or the other have a difficult time articulating their stance and are frustrated when others don't agree.

Most people grow out of it. But then again, when I watch the commentators on Fox & MSNBC, I'm not so sure.

Many people of all beliefs feel that if they shout someone down, it makes their opinion better. It is an intimidation tactic. It does not work with me, but that does not stop people from trying. I usually tell them, "being loud does not make you right." These people do want a discussion and do not want to hear others opinions. There are right wing people who are the same way.

Liberals are no more prone to this activity than conservatives. It's a control tactic used by many people of all persuasions who, as you say, are not articulate enough to enage in civil debate.

Campus liberals can be kind of irritating. Fortunately, their ideology has little to do with liberalism in the real world.

I bet if you went to a highly conservative college campus, liberal ideas would get shouted down.

There is such a thing as the VOCAL MINORITY. They are everywhere and feel that if they can get a small group to out-shout their opposition, they will win. Generally it works for them. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Its an old communist take-over technique. That's how unions were taken over as well as the Democratic party.
Since they don't have anything except criticism coached in vile terms, they resort to this technique.

shouting down the opposition is far better than having them arrested as the republicans have done on several occasions.
