I have goldy brown couch and berber carpet with lots of colours the main ones being dark/light brown, green, orange. It's a small basement with some natural light on a north wall.

Go for a light neutral color, like a pretty beige... Sounds like there are already dominat/bolder colors going on, so I'd stick with something neutral to complement the other colors, plus it would help brighten the room if there isn't a whole lot of light coming in.

Stay away from monochromatic/matchy colors. I suggest staying away from browns and oranges. Try a contrasting color that will pull out some of the nuances in your carpeting. Maybe a soft blue? Paint the wall with natural light in your accent color, and use an off-white on the other walls. This should keep the space from closing-in and feeling cramped.

A great trend right now is to paint your walls a chocolate brown ( a shade or three lighter) and use a teal green/blue as an abstract "stripe". You could than use the teal green/blue and orange in your accent pieces in the room. It would be a great retro look. Could be a lot of fun.

There are some wonderful shades of green that are being shown in home decors right now. The shades of green are a subdued greenish gold....(hard to describe) Why not go to the website:

You should be able to see some new colours here that might work for you.

you would probably want a light or bright color for a basement unless you have great lighting..then I would go for the brown. My friend has brown walls in her basement and it is very inviting and warm feeling. She has alot of lighting inclusing can lighting to offset the dark walls.

we used a paint swatch called biscuit. It goes on looking like a natural beige but in the light it comes off a buttery creme color. Not too yellow though. It is still very neutral and lends itself without blending. We found it at Meijers. (if you have one of those)

I would choose a creamy, buttery yellow. It is cheerful but also restful and will match anything really. Be careful, though, when choosing yellows: they INTENSIFY like crazy on the walls, so choose a shade or two lighter than you think you should; you'll be surprised.
