The computer was first used by the military to produce a book on artillery range instructions. So a guy knew from looking a book how much powder and what angle was needed and wind adjustments was needed. He didn't need to write the calculations out.

Because the one with the short Math major given to them by the Flintstones didn't work after the guy left for B.I.T (Bedrock Institute of Technology)
