Well, I brought a giant Edam ball back from Amsterdam once and no-one stopped me. There was a big salami too. I actually bought them at the airport shop so you must be able to. I think it has to be sealed though.

just give you a trick:
covered the dairy product with aluminium foil and pack inside the stainless steel box so the smell kept inside.
then put inside your suitcase or backpack - not to carry inside the cabin.
I did it many times but also depends on your luck, but so far it works very well with me
