Guys that say they deeply like you are too scared to use the "L" word. Either that, or they are too inexperienced to realize what love feels like. In either event, you should sit down and have a serious talk with him about how he feels. You need clarification on his feelings before you commit to any further advances in your relationship.
Is there any sex happening yet? Well, people who love each other usually engage in sexual activity. People who just are in "deep like" are still just very good friends. And good friends don't usually engage (but I won't say never) in casual sex.
