He gets very defensive when you ask him about it. He tries to put all blame on you. He cannot keep eye contact when answering questions about an "alleged" affair.

If you think he is try to catch him. If he claims to be at work show up with a nice snack. Or if at a bar with the guys end up there with your friends and see if he is with guys or flirting with girls. If he is cheating either kick him to the curb, after you have taken all your stuff and made sure you have all your money. Find a place to live and move in then say good bye, or cheat yourself.

He goes one of two ways from the way that he normally treats you - either all over you can't get enough to disappears on you and you don't see, or hear from him without tracking him down. Closing computer screens if you walk in the room, hanging up the telephone, going outside to take a cell phone call, becoming irritated with anything you do, etc. Lots of signs, and then just point blank ask him.

Love is the answer to everything. All you ever need is love,
communication and understanding. That's what I figured out so
far. If you are down, you need to get up and start doing something with
your life. Don't need to be shy, be straight forward and allways say what
you want and expect from the others.

you will find signs. the best way to know is to ask him and if you get the gut feeling that he is lying, then he is cheating. however, if asking him is a problem, then look for signs like women calling his cell phone, unusual behavior, coming home late, acting distant, stuff like that.

unless you catch him in the act it's pretty tough to know if he really is, if you ask a guy if he is cheating the majority of them will say no.

If there is a definite change in his pattern with you, himself personally and his friends... I would tend to wonder... Hang up phone calls if you answer his phone, him getting calls and excusing himself from your presence.... making a change in his appearance... spending more time with his friends.. not calling you..
There are lots of things.....
Keep your eyes open and write them down, have a look at your list and ask yourself honestly are you being paranoid or do you have grounds for your suspicions....
