You cannot use them, supposedly because they can cause interference with the airplane's communication system. But think about it a minute: if using a cell phone on an airplane could cause any problem, do you think they would let us keep them on board? No, we would have to check them out before boarding or pass through a detector. It is not the case obviously. Incidents caused by the use of cell phones in aircrafts have, to my knowledge, never been documented with proper evidence. It is a aviation industry myth! Incidentally, I am glad we are not allowed to use them on airplanes, this is the last bastion of peace and quiet.

Yes, they are. I know this, because my friend was carrying one with him, from Barbados to Canada -- ONLY it cannot be used during the flight, as it must be turned off. When he got off the plane, he turned it back on, and while I was waiting for like an hour and 15 minutes, something like that. Wondering what was going on, I sent him a text message, we had been texting each other since his arrival, keeping updates, so he came out. I doubt I can live without a cell phone.

You are not allowed to use cell phones on US flights. You can bring a cell phone on board the plane but it has to be turned off during the flight.

Yes they are allowed but they will tell you not to use them until you land, now however I do recall going to the Bahamas last year and it did not work there, I hated that because I need my phone like I need the computer. I did here you can pay for a card that can go in your phone so you can then use it, of course I didn't find this out until the day we were living , so check it out

I have only flown domestic US, but I always have my cell phone on the plane. They make you turn it off before you take off though, and you can't turn it on again until they say so after you land.
My husband flies international all the time, and he brings his phone with him on the plane with no problems. They just make him shut it off till the end of the flght.

There is a certain time when you can use the cells. You definitely can not use it when the plane takes off and when it lands. But you better ask stewardess when you want to use the cell in order not to get in trouble.

Good luck,
Svetlana

Yes, but you can't use them during the entire flight because the transmission might cause the plane's avionics to go nuts.

Yes they are allowed, but you cannot use them during takoff and landing because the signals can interfere with the airplane's electronic equipment.
