my programmes freeze up a lot lately and some have crashed. been re-directed to msn downloads but to be honest don't find there site particularly informative, or anything they suggest i have tried. it happens mostly when i am on the net and i defrag, remove adware, spyware and all the other stuff that is recommended. am i missing something? my son told me that firefox is the way to go. anyone else of the same opinion or had similar problems and resolved, and if so how. thanks for help

IE is made for crashing

United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"

You haven't got anything to lose by trying a different browser

I suggest you backup yur files on a CD or USB Stick/Pen drive and reinstall windows since yur programs freezes up etc. Make sure is a clean format and not repair mode. After reinstalling, update yur system and yes Mozilla Firefox is the way to go. It is free: www.mozilla.com/firefox.

U can put in more memory on yur computer and after you reinstall windows, defragment yur computer. As a rule, yur first defrag will be the longest. All what i just said is to speed up yur computer. Laterz.

You need to really wear a virus scan and a spyware scan like Spybot S&D. Firefox will help prevent this in the future since it isn't as vulnerable as IE, however, you have to get your system cleaned and possibly your registry cleaned.

Firefox is great. I recommend it and allow its use on the network I administer for work. I haven't had any problems with secure sites and it works with any site I use with the exception of the ones that only recognize IE.

What do you have to lose with firefox ? It is free and it is independant of your OS. Internet explorer ties to the explorer and your OS closely. I would much prefer to leave that alone in case there is something wrong and don't have to reboot the PC.
