Suicide is considered a sin in Christianity because one is destroying one of God's creations, and because one is explicitly rejecting the "gift of life" from God. Dante had a pretty interesting area for suicides in Hell in his Inferno.

It is not likely that the act of suicide is an act that would be hitting the target in the exact sinner. It like all other sins (one possible exception) is forgiven should that person ask forgivness. What we do not know for sure is can they ask forgiveness after their heart stops pumping so perhaps a person should ask in advance and would they be truly penatent and still do the deed. So lets see one would need to do it in a non reversable manner preferably painful so that they could be sincere about being penatent. Sorry I guess this humor is a little black but then how bout that question. e-mail, i will consider the possible draw backs having a female friend might cause me, and pray about that

Yes it is a sin. The Commandment says "thou shalt not kill". This means that God alone decides when each person will die. However, when a person who has committed suicide appears in judgment before God, I am sure that God will take into consideration all the pertinent circumstances, including any mental duress or temporary insanity which might have driven the person to something he would not otherwise have done, and which may well have prevented him from consciously and willfully rejecting the will of God. God does not hold us fully responsible for immoral acts we commit because we are incapacitated and are thereby unable to make a rational moral choice.

In order for a person to commit a mortal sin,
1. the person must commit a very serious act,
2. know that the act is wrong, and
3. commit that act of his or her own free will.

So let's look at a person who commits suicide:

1. Is it a serious act - yes
2. Does the person who commits this act know it is wrong - probably
3. IIs tyhe person who commits suicide doing it of their own free will? If the person is very depressed or under extreme psychological pressure (being threatened with torture) or sacrifices his or her life for that of others, the answer may be "No".

Suicide is not always a sin.

Not in the sense Christians think but it carries unpleasant karmic consequences. You can escape nothing in life by commiting suicide-you only need to reincarnate and go through the same hardships all over again.

Depending on the reason. If you just don't want to live then yes.. you've made a conscious choice that you haven't got any use for life and really can't expect empathy. When it comes to Cancer and other things to horrible to go into.. then as a Christian I believe God will understand. I've had too much death in my family to think other wise.

Suicide is the deliberate taking of a human life. Doesn't matter that it's your life. ALL life is God's first and He takes a dim view of those who end it prematurely. "Thou shalt not kill", remember?

Suicide is a mortal sin, the same as homocide, regicide, matricide, fratracide, genocide, etc.

Ask Jesus, he could have gotten away but instead he sacrificed and let the Romans get him, without any sign of resistance, which is in turn a type of SUICIDE.
