I work on a Neurology floor in a hospital and last week we got this patient in who started having left facial drooping, some LE weakness, and seizures. It took them forever to find out what he had, but knew it was some infectious process in his brain. Well, they finally figured out he ate some pork that wasn't cooked well enough and have you ever heard of trichanosis (spelling?), any way, yes, he had worms in his brain from eating the under cooked meat and they were feeding on his brain. To make matters worse, they said there was nothing they could do for him except wait for the worms to die, but in the mean time he deficits kept getting worse. They said surgery would only make matters worse. I have never seen anyone so depressed. Anybody have a serious problem that tops this???

If you are a medical professional, I can't believe you are trying to one up a situation as dire as this. Shame on you.

And how do you now know the spelling of the patients affliction? Ignorance, or didn't try hard enough to read the chart?

By the way, it is trichinellosis, and here is an excerpt from a website (you might want to read it)

How is trichinellosis infection treated?

Several safe and effective prescription drugs are available to treat trichinellosis. Treatment should begin as soon as possible and the decision to treat is based upon symptoms, exposure to raw or undercooked meat, and laboratory test results.

Ive seen a picture of a guy who had worms in his brain. Don't know the story behind it though. I guess you can't really do anything.

My cousin's grandpa was eating sardine's with his wife. Now, some fishes have bacteria, but your body is able to fight them off. But my cousin's grandpa was one in many (like this is the most rarest case you will hear) where his body couldn't produce something to fight off this bacteria. Symptoms started to be pooping blood and not feeling well. He was slowly dying unknowingly, only to die shortly the next day being admitted to the hospital. What had happened was because his body was not able to fight off this bacteria, it was slowly eating his body ALIVE. His esophogus and stomach and intestines had all deteiriated while he was living, reason why he was pooping blood, but really was pooping his insides out. Even after his death, he was still rotting and still being eaten by this bacteria. He was behind plastic, and no one was to touch him.

This is the most RAREST case ever, his blood was donated for research, because even doctor's are unsure how this is caused, and so on and so forth.

That has no comparrison to depression!!! I feel bad for the patient but he will be out of pain soon. No one has ever died from depression--they may commit suicide but the depression did not directly cause their death. Do you want to know what depression feels like?? It feels like all the happy, loving, pure feelings have been sucked from your body leaving you feeling full of pain, sadness and unending despair. I feels like soul has been ripped out leaving you to feel empty and alone. It makes even the smallest, most inconsequential problem feel huge. It takes everything and everyone away from you leaving you alone and desparate for love. It causes pain in your body as well--every joint, muscle and limb feel weighted and heavy. Your head throbs and your hands go numbness. Soon the numbness encompasses your entire body and death starts to sound apealling--any thing would be better than this. Imagine feeling like this everyday for years with no end in sight. Do you see now how there is no comparison?? This may be extreme but if you have ever been severely depressed for a long period of time you will agree there is nothing on earth to compare it to.

Oh how terrable. Why can't they give him some antibiotics and an anti-alzheimer's medication in the meantime. My grandma died in august from an infection in her foot that was all the way down to the bone. Mom knew it was her time and refused to have a feeding tube put in her. Grandma told mom the week b4 she died that she was gonna die. She was in the hospital for a week and she was givin Dilaluid for her pain and anti-biotics but it didn't help :-( I miss my grandma very much... :-(
