I am Catholic and have decided that I no longer want to be. I want all records that I was a part of the church to be removed. How can I do that? Does the Vatican have all the names of baptised people or something?

The Vatican does not have the records. They are kept at the parish where you were baptized. If that parish no longer exists than they would be at the diocesan office. Your baptismal record is considered a legal and document I don't know if it can actually be destroyed.

Its a part of your past. You should want to keep it. These are things that you had no say in. Your parents had you baptized. No the Vatican doesnt keep records of this but the Archdioces would have a record along with the church where the services were performed. So yes these records will be around.

Baptism and communion are forever, so the records are permanent.

There is a process where the parish may note an official defection from the Catholic faith on those records, which pretty much takes care of it.

Send a registered letter to your parish office and ask them to record that you have renounced your Catholic faith.

That should do it.

Why do you want to leave the Catholic religion? Is it a religious reason (like you don't agree with something) or a personal reason (you just don't go to mass and decided to give up the ghost). I"m available to talk if you need someone to talk with. It would be a shame to leave a religion for something minor.

As for baptism and communion records, you'd probably have to talk to a priest about obtaining those, and I don't think they'll let you go without a fight.

No...just go to the church where is was preformed...and you are going to have to fight them...maybe get a lawyer..they will not want to lose youas a catholic, cause that could be losing money to them, and your future childrends money....
I was baptized catholic and have never cared if there is a record....i gave it up about 15 years ago...its part of the past, who cares if there is some 25 year old piece of paper sitting in a storage room somewhere....its meaningless

ask your preacher about the process...there should be one for your faith....in my faith there is a process to remove one from church records....though..before you do so..think long and hard.. this action is not taken lightly......if you want a slightly joking answer.. try getting baptized into another church..that will cause some commotion to get your records blotted.........seriously though.....that can happen if you baptize into a church the vatican frowns upons....

When I converted from Methodist to Mormon, I asked the Methodist church to remove my name from the roles of the church. I don't know if they did, but I asked, and for me that was enough.

i wouldn't think that they would, if you want to change religons then do it, it's not like your gonna have the popes secret service knocking on your door demanding that you go to their church.
