I also have curly hair and when it was long, the top of my hair was straight too. When your hair gets longer, the top gets weighed down and therefore straight (no matter what products you use, it will still weigh it down). I ended up cutting my hair and it's back to curly all over, but depending on how long it is, you can use the Frizz Ease product line, for example, and use a curling iron to create curls on top of your head and use a setting spray or hairspray to keep the curls. You can also buy curl reviving sprays to freshen up your curls throughout the day.

When you put mousse in it, try scrunching it with your hand. And when you put your hair up, try pulling the top of your hair out a little so it's not completely flat against your head. I have long naturally curly hair and I like wearing a chop stick or a hair stick when I wear it up because I don't have to wear my hair so tight and let it loosen up a little.

I don't think your curls are gone due to the hair style, its because they are now long, when you wash your hair use a curling shampoo, they should come back and always comb them with a comb when wet, not a brush. If that fails use a curling iron. LOL>

straight/curliness is partially determined by the shape of the 'tube' that your hair grows from.
Chances are the your hair will return to how it was if you leave it to its own devices for a month or two.

You could go for layering which would give you some lift at the top and still keep the length.

Have a perm, if it means so much to you to have the curls. Choose the loose body type wave, so it resembles your natural curl.

Get a semi -permanent on medium rollers. Ask your hair dresser to do it though. You might mess up if you don't know how.
