He's 11! He's a kid!
my first question is...what do you mean not suitable for his age?
But my suggestion would be
to get him involved in outside activities.
Karate classes, baseball, basketball...and on and on.
Get him involved in the community, keep him active physically (which will tire him out) and keep him healthy.
My son goes swimming once a week, karate twice a week, and just finished basketball which was twice a week and with homework, his daily routine....he is very busy...

It's normal for a child to want to explore the world around him, and the only way he can do it is by putting it into a huge discovery game. Hide and seek, tag, cops and robbers... These are his ways of discovering the world. It's never too much play when you talk about a child. And you know what? You should play with him too. Discover things with your son.

If he's playing with inappropriate video games, take them away NOW. And let him do video games no more than one hour a day even if they are age appropriate. On weekends, maybe 2 hours.

If he wants to be outside, or building, or doing art or playing with his friends at sports or bikes or skating, then I'd let him do it as long as his homework is done and it's not so dark as to be dangerous.

I think an 11 year old should only play at least two hours a day and he should be playing the playstation or something you can find for him to do nothing that is going to get him dirty.

To me, as a mother, if my child had all of their homework done and the chores (if they have any) done, then I would allow them to play as much as they want until it's bedtime. If you need help with stuff, just ask him and tell him he can go back to playing when you two are done. Maybe find activities suitable for his age if you're worried about that part of it.

If his chores and homework are done, then the rest could be play time. In fact some of it should be playtime for you WITH him. You need to keep track of what is appropriate and not, but it is better then watching TV/ Computer Games and Internet / Game Consoles, etc.

well I hope that he goes to school.... after school MY 11 year old does homework for about two hours, the he plays playstation for about an hour, and then he goes outside and either rides his bike or plays basketball with his brothers and dad till dinner. As long as you or hubby spending time with him it will be okay.

You should just let him play as much as it's natural for him to do... let him use his imagination and creativity and all that jazz. Unless, of course, the amount he plays is causing a problem with other things, or is ridiculously violent or something... I wouldn't have thought an 11-year has a particularly busy schedule.

Certainly no more than 5 hours max. He has to start learning to act his age, and learn about reality. At 11, he should know that life isn't all about fun and games, it is also about individual responsibility which we all must bear at all ages.

It is ok to play with yourself as long as it's in private!

I would put a limit at maybe 2 hrs/day
