I have two male cats. 1 is 3 yrs. old and the other is 14. I just got a puppy. he is now 6 months old. He chases the younger cat. The older cat just hisses and stays put as he is the king of the house and the puppy doesn't bother him. The younger cat runs til he jumps up on something or just plays dead on the floor. It's so funny! How do i get the cats used to the puppy? Also, how do i keep the dog from chewing on things? The dog is in the kitchen that is blocked off with his bedding, food and litter. All of his things are there and he is happy but i can't keep doing this for long and keeping him penned up. I want a harmonious household of animals! Anyone with similar experiences, please help!! Thanks!!

It can take months for your cat to get used to the puppy. I have two cats, and when I adopted my dog the older cat stayed up on top of the refrigerator for what seemed like forever. But eventually he got used to my dog, and now he isn't bothered by her at all. My other cat actually snuggles with my dog, and they sleep on the couch together. It just takes time.

Cats and canines are organic friends. It look you're previous the confusing area already (the intro degree the place you may desire to save them separate and monitored on an identical time as you gently introduce and allow them to get familiar with each others heady scent). Now that's definitely significant which you do not intervene and allow them to ascertain there residing concern. i think of you would be delighted to ascertain that the lunging finished by using your canines and taunting of your cats would be area of their enjoying ordinary for years yet to return. (Take this from a woman who sits here together with her ninety lb Doberman and four lb cat cuddled jointly, the cat likes to place her finished head in the canines's mouth and then hangs off his nostril.....for exciting!) you have not something to be worrying approximately, in basic terms save a digital camera reachable for all of the large image ops.

They are fun to watch. Actually its a game. If the cat was annoyed with the pup she would jump up on something where he could not get to her. but, as far as chewing, you can buy something at Walmart in the pet supplies called no chew, just spray it on the things you don't want him to chew, it really does work.

You're not supposed to just drop a new animal into another animal's territory. First you get them used to each others scents by exchanging toys and blankets, have them sniff at each other under a closed door then let them see each other. This takes weeks...not hours.
