I have had the same problem for a couple months now.
First of all, DO NOT USE BLEACH. It will absolutely ruin your hair.
You can go to a beauty supply store and get this product called One n' Only Color Fix, its about $14. Once you get it you mix equal parts of bottle 1 and 2. Do not use the processor, it will turn your hair dark again. This will remove the dye from your hair and lighten it to a desired level to prep it for dying. Dont worry, it does not damage your hair one bit. When i did it, it left my hair better than how it was before!
After you lighten your hair wait a week or two to dye.
Good luck!!!

Sure you can - but just in gradual steps. Personally, I would go up a few shades at a time over a long period of time - and while using super excellent conditioners and mild relaxers. Going to a chestnut to a toffee and then a caramel and then lighter gradually is better for your hair and scalp. The best is always going to a professional though. Garnier Nutrisse dyes are milder on the hair.

(And it's not about being black or white - I have lots of black relatives with natural green eyes and blonde hair. Black women are blessed have to choice to look more ethnic or go status quo and look "great" either way).

I had my relaxed hair dyed blond years ago and it SEVERELY damaged my hair! The stylist had to "lift" (strip) the black out before depositing the blond, and it left my hair looking and feeling like straw. It was so dry and brittle that I ended up getting it all cut off into an ultra-short style. The only way I would ever go that light again is if I let my relaxer and black dye grow out and get cut out, only leaving natural, unprocessed hair. If you aren't against wearing a weave, that might be a better choice to protect your own hair. Also, if you decide you don't like the color on yourself, no damage done to your own hair.

THe lighter you go from dark hair the more damage you will do to your own hair. I suggest having someone make you a wig inthe shade of blonde you prefer. Also, if you are really interested in going blonde have a professional cosmetologist do it for you. Trust me if you do it yourself your hair WILL fall out.

I dyed my hair black and tried to lighten my hair and after serveral attempts I went to Sally's and bought 20% lightener... after successfully lightening my hair I successfully lost all my hair.

Disgusted at the time but thank God it's grown back.

OMG you could make all your hair fall out at once if you do too much.

Start by gradually lightening the color by using a crappy kind of shampoo like Suave or Herbal Essences.

Then stop relaxing your hair. The color will come out eventually, but it will take about a month or so.

Be very very careful!
Do it in stages, not all at once or you will fry your hair!
Make sure you go to a proffesional to have it done and tell them to use Schwarzkopf bleach, it's kinda expensive, but it's awesome. Also look at the different shades of blonde against your skin tone, because you don't want to end up looking like some kind of bimbo. lol

If you bleach your hair before you dye it again the color will come out better. Also if you wait like two or three days before you re-dye it then it should come out like you dyed it with your natural hair color. Good luck!

get a wig. If you dyed your hair black, the only way to go blonde would be bleaching...and in that case, on relaxed hair? It'll be severly damamged!!

Go with highlights first and see what you think. Its less damage to your hair and if it looks bad its no biggie to color over. Just be sure you aren't frying your head with all these hair treatments!
