The first question is do I need to get pet insurance?

And can anyone recommend a good pet insurance company. My main concern is that French Bulldogs are prone to skin allergies and respiratory problems, and I would like to have an insurance that will cover most of the diagnostic and treatment costs. And also if they cover neutering and shots.

Thanks!

Do you need it? That's up to you and how you feel about budgeting a few dollars now to prevent a huge outlay of cash later. Insurance can cost as little 20/mos and as much as 80/mos depending on what you want to be covered. The more bells and whistles included, the higher the cost.

The general rule of thumb is uif you are going to get insurance, to get coverage for illness and accidents. The routine exams and shots you can budget for...no big surprises there. However, if your dog swallows something or gets injured, surgery can cost several hundred to even thousands of dollars.

That said, I personally prefer having insurance and the peace of mind money will never be an issue when making medical decision for my english bulldog.

I did my research and ended up going with petshealthplan.com

there are other companies out there so be sure to check out the web.

good luck.

I know that our policy with Pets Best covers shots and neutering, but I'm not sure about allergies and respiratory problems, which might be considered hereditary. When I was researching pet insurance for our Aussie, I did see a list online that the companies usually list what they will and will not cover, so a little leg work on your part might help with that. I do know that Pets Best covers hereditary conditions, at least to *some* extent, which is more than the other companies cover.

We went with Pets Best because of their coverage and high limits (some companies have very low limits that result in a reimbursement of only half your bill or less, even for expensive bills), and we also felt like the monthly premium was affordable for what we were getting. After going through a car accident and cancer with one of our last dogs, I'm very grateful to know that if something like that happens again that we're not alone in paying for it.

If you don't have any check out the site listed below. Sometimes the insurance is more expensive then the vet visit itself.
Be careful of insurances that make you plan or guesstimate how much you'll be spending. Why and how are we suppose to know?

Pet insurance.com

It gives a detailed list of what is covered, riders that you can add and cost. Also you can contact them with further questions.

Tell all site, no beating around the bush.

You obviously did no research on them. French bulldogs are expensive because the male can't properly mount the female. They have to be artificially inseminated, therefore have top of the line genes and vet expenses. Also, because their hips are too narrow, the female has to get a C-section to have the pups. You'll never find a cheap one or one being given away. It's way too much trouble to breed them to just give them away like that.
