Being a small boy, he was too short to reach the button for the 32nd floor.

Therefore the highest he could reach was the 16th Floor, and then from there he'd have to walk the rest of the way up.

I may not be the first to answer.. but the properly worded riddle is this....

Mr. Johnson works in a large building on the 32nd floor. He generally arrives in the morning before anyone else and leaves mid-afternoon. When he arrives he take the elevator to the 16th floor and then walks the remaining flights to his floor. When he leaves, he rides the elevator all the way down. However if there is foul weather or Mr. Johnson arrives late he can take the elevator all the way to his floor. One simple point can explain his elevator habits. What is it?

Explaination..

Mr. Johnson is a Midget.

If he arrives late.. he can ask other to push the button he can't reach. If the weather is bad... he uses his umbrella to press the correct button.

Hope I win!

i don't know. Either the lift only went up to the 16th floor or like what everybody else says he was to short to reach the 32nd button.

he was too short to reach the 32nd floor button in the lift. The highest one he could reach was 16.

Should have taken a poking stick with him really but I guess he didn't think of it.

you said all of the buttons worked, but you didn't say the elevator did. Was it that the elevator did not go up to the 32nd floor although the buttons worked?

He was not tall enough to reach the button! =)
Cause number 1 is right at the bottom and 32 is way up high.
