May I make a suggestion? After Hurricane Katrina last year, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army received truckloads upon truckloads of clothing donations. You might want to check with them first to see if this is an identified need.

Food drives, however, are always welcome. Lots of people donate at Christmas time but the rest of the year the shelves at food banks can get very bare.

I've seen food drives use tactics such as having a concert or dance and charging one can of food entrance; having a carwash, doing the same; setting up a table outside a supermarket (with their permission) and asking people to buy one extra can of food and drop it off on their way out.

Thanks to you and your friends for trying to make a difference. Good luck.

Whether it be food or clothing if done an a school make it a contest. Whichever class brings in the most gets a pizza party or something....

Earlier point about food banks is true. Either food or clothing would be beneficial however.

Contact neighbors, friends, family a few days before you plan to pick up the items and give them a day and time you will be by to get the goods. The post office does this once or twice a year for food where you can just leave it in the mailbox. Don't use the mailbox idea for your event though. Federal laws and all. THey can leave the items in a box/bag on their doorstep if they are not going to be home.

If the school allows go and speak to each class, asking that eveyone who can bring in one, clean article of clothing. You would also need permission to set up a collection box in a good, acessible location. A good placr might be near the entrance or in the lunchroom. Limit the time for donations to be made to one week. good luck

Go around your neighborhood, asking for donations. Don't set up containers as drop stations, people steal
