Do you think we are now seeing the gradual death of fad Wicca phenomenon?

On the one hand I see more FMPPHT's explaining differences between Wicca and Neo-wicca, the term Neo-wicca is more wide spread and more people are willing to learn about Wicca or go into other paths. I've seen a definite decrease in ideas such as 'the burning times', and less people claiming to be 'self-initiated'.

On the other hand there are still books by the likes of Ravenwolf, sites such as Witchschool and people who claim to be Wicca despite not knowing what Wicca is, let alone being initiated. I've seen an increase in anti-Wicca ideas that Wicca are elitist, and people throwing hissy-fit declarations 'I'm going to call myself Wicca anyway! You're bashing my beliefs!' trying to seal their right to take a title that does not belong to them.

There is no overnight solution, but do you think we are getting through to people that Wicca has specific beliefs, practices and doctrines?

"I believe the label Wiccan is open for anyone to use, even those we don't particularly care for"

Wicca is someone who follow the religion of Wicca, anyone can use it, but that does not make them Wicca and it is from people missusing that term that we have 'fad' Wicca.

I'm not sure about it's death - but I am seeing more differentiation. At very least, there's (apparently) a wider acknowledgement of the differences between the two.

I still think that the fad-Wicca phenomenon will last for a long while - it's got a lot of strength and numbers, and there's a lot more awareness training that needs to be done. Even when that's done, there's still going to be neo-Wicca folks who will refuse to "give ground" to the trad Wicca camp - so I don't think anything is a done deal.

But, yes, I think the message is finally getting through.

Yes, I think in recent times Pagan religions ("Wicca" included) are becomming more respected and better understood. Although I'm sick of the fad of Wicca & it being trendy & all that, I do attribute the fact that Pagan religions are more accepted, understood and respected to the fact that it became so popular, such a fad, so people decided to do some actual credible research. Also, I think the "DaVinci Code Movement" and programs like those on the History Channel have helped to inform the masses on alternate spiritual practices and their long history. It's getting better as time goes on. The fad will eventually die, people will move on to the next trend... True Pagans will continue to believe & practice.

Blessed Be!

I think it is dying out, but I think it's because more, honest, information is being published about it, debunking the Fluffy idealism that seems to have taken over.

You can't be "self-initiated" Initiation has to do with joining a group... and the group accepting you as one of their own. Now, Self-Dedication, I can see. But not Self-Initiation. That's a rather silly way of putting that you are planning on walking the path.

Ravenwolf, well, I remember when her first books came out. Of course, this was when I was younger and first getting into it deeper than I was before. I was rather turned off by the information in her books and finally just labelled myself Pagan because I was beginning to see so many who were spreading false information and calling it Wiccan.

Personally, I believe the label Wiccan is open for anyone to use, even those we don't particularly care for. What I find rather annoying are the solitaries who claim "I'm a High Priestess". No, you're a witch and/or pagan who's claiming to be a Priestess, but that doesn't make you one.

I think it is finally turning around and people are debunking this whitewash BS that is being spread everywhere as Wicca. It will take some time, but it is Finally coming around. I'm glad to see others out there who Know what's up.
