And, how can you have a relationship with Jesus when the relationship is so one-sided? You have to do for him and he doesn't have to do for you? And if you don't do right in the relationship, eternal torment awaits.

How is that any different than an abusive relationship? For example: A boyfriend tells his girlfriend that if she leaves the relationship, he will kill her. She stays in fear but remains loyal. Only difference is that eternal torture is far worse.

To Christian...I was a Christian for 35 years, Jesus's promises were bunk. Its because he isn't god, and he is just a story in a myth.

I didn't figure it'd go to far before the arrogant stance of "you must not have been a 'true' Christian", you have no clue.

If the Christian God/Jesus does exists he has not only left and forsaken me but tons of people all over the world. Men,women, children. Children are being raped and sold as sex slaves, beaten by parents. Women are beaten and raped. Men, killing each other for no good reasons and starting wars. God has forsaken all of them.

If the Christian god does exist then it is his fault for screwing up all creation in the first place. If he is omnipotent then he knew that humans would fail the conditions set forth and he should have stopped creation. There is no way eternal torture is loving by any means. We are mortals. That is why I cannot believe in the Christian God and indeed if he exists, then the relationship is one sided. If my husband didn't speak to me, or answer me, or help me when I needed him...what kind of relationship would it be? A dead one.

Homo love, buddy!

I disagree with you on one point: Real abuse at the hands of a man-pig is far worse than mythical eternal torture.

First of all, He doesn't have to do anything in the relationship, He's done the ultimate: He not only died, but he shed his blood on the cross so that we may have salvation. Also, Jesus is the "way, the truth, and the life. Noone comes to the Father except through me."
You cannot have a relationship with God unless you can accept Jesus Christ as your savior.

As for the scriptures, Here is one:
John 15:15
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
(He is stating us as friends, a type of relationship)
It goes on to say
John 15:17
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

But a relationship is this: a connection, association, or involvement .

If Jesus applies like this in any way to you, it is a relationship.

The punishment for not having a relationship with God is not eternal torment, But Jesus is an escape from eternal torment, which is why my love for him is so great.

First of all Jesus gave to us first...he laid down his life to buy our salvation; that only his blood can obtain anyway; because without atonement there is no forgiveness and we are still dead in our transgressions. We should not ask the savior what he can do for us but rather what we can do for him. What he did for me I will serve him for the rest of my life, because I was worse than any sinner and he still died for me, maybe you think that your righteousness is of your own but that is just a huge lie, just like the lie that says all good people go to heaven and all bad people go to hell. If you were ever truly saved and know the hole in which you were saved from you would not be spouting off such things. You might claim to have been a Christian all your life, but were you indeed? chances are you were brought up in the church, and the religion was never real to you..with me I never understood religion, but I sure understand forgiveness and being redeemed. Jesus laid down his life that I might live and he loves me more than I could ever love myself. Maybe you were in for all the WRONG REASONS if you think it is "ONE-SIDED"

I'm glad you asked this question, since you are so very mistaken. It is not a one sided relationship. Jesus Himself told us, if you abide in me, I will abide in you. He promised He would never leave nor forsake us. He also asked, "why do you call me Lord, and not do the things I ask?" I ask God to help you open your bible, read about the Lord, and come to know that He loves you, has a good plan for your life, and wants to be there for you, day and night, loving you and guiding you, the rest of your life, until you walk into the kingdom.

May God show you His mercy and the truth of His son and His word, and I ask this in Jesus' name.
