I went to college and have a degree in Education and I don't teach. College really broadens your horizons. You learn to learn, research, adapt. It's not "Job Training".

Why do people assume as though a college degree is related ONLY to a future career, and if they can't see some direct/obvious connection to their job(s) after college, they thing the degree is something USELESS...that they will never use.

What a load of crap! A college degree is not about giving you job skills, honey, so if you are thinking it should, you will NEVER be satisfied. College is about developing broader skills, that can be applied in many areas of life--not just a JOB.

I am a college professor, and the thought that my students think that I am here just to give them job training skill is a really HORRIFYING realization.

Yes I went to college for 6 years and am working in a totally unrelated field. For me college was a waste of time and money

Yes I received a degree in violin performance from Oberlin (took me five years). I use it, but not for my job.
