My son did the same thing. I called my doctor and she said that if it is deep, then I could being him in. But she said that were kids are young, they heal faster. She said that they wouldn't really do much except to clean it. I wouldn't worry if it isn't that bad.

My little boy fell when he was 23 months and split his lip and cheek about an inch back from the corner of his mouth on the corner of the coffee table. He has problems with his eyes (3 surgeries so far) and trips over himself constantly! He did have to have stiches but it was only 3 stiches. After seeing what he went through to get them in I would say if it stops bleeding and doesn't seem to bother them LEAVE IT ALONE! They will strap your child down and drug them and it still took 5 nurses a doctor and me to get the stiches in. Then they have to come out later. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem. Good luck. This too shall pass.

As long it's not through his lip, he's probably fine. Lips bleed much worse then other parts so it always looks bad. Put pressure on it and if it doesn't let up, he might need stitches. Try to keep ice on it, it will hurt. He's going to have a fat lip but he'll be okay.

My son did the same thing, I took him to the ER, because I thought there was too much blood and it looked really nasty. The doctor just cleaned it up and set us on our way. He said it would be too tramatizing to do stitches, since it is his lip and not through the skin.

Just keep it clean and it will heal faster than you can imagine.

Check to see how deep and long the cuts are. If its really bleeding thats a pretty good indication he needs stitches as well.

1st like everyone said see if it stops bleeding. & also how much pain does he seem to be in? take a good look at it, does it look really deep? My newphew bit his tounge when he was 3 & I was watching him I freaked out. After a few minites the bleeding stoped & he forgot all about it. I checked it every half hour till I knew he was fine. (just to be safe) but if you are concerned call your Dr. & ask him. Thats what they are there for!

If you are really worried about it then call his pediatrician and ask if you can bring him in. They can tell you if he will need stitches. Most pediatrics have a walk in sick clinic after hours that you can take him too. Good luck.
