First, many people have never heard about it.
Second, of those who hear about it, many say 'conspiracy theory', and walk away.
Third, a true understanding of just how much effect they have on our daily lives is too big a step for those with small or closed minds (95% of the population).
Fourth, there is no absolutely clear definition of who is involved, because of the secrecy. Many people cannot work in conceptual terms.

I suggest you look further into Freemasonry from the other side. Formulate your own opinions instead of jumping on the cult or conspiracy bandwagons.
As a fourth generation Mason, I am proud of the fact that I am involved in an organization which holds similar values and ideals. I am only an Apprentice in the Masons which means I am accepted, but not yet fully aware of all that goes on. However, I can assure you my great-grandfather, grandfather and my dad were in no way shape or form involved in anything Satanic, cult, or weird. They didn't board alien spaceships or assassinate Kennedy. And they don't cast ballots in American Idol or decide the fate of nations. The fact is, they are NOT a secret organization. We are an organization with secrets, much like every family has its own private issues, beliefs and routines. In reference to any sort of member who is criminal and such, the Masons conduct thorough background checks before people are conducted. It is not uncommon to refuse entry to someone who desires membership in the organization. However, despite the checks and balances of keeping bad people out, every organization has a few bad apples along the way. They are indeed surely trying to keep those people out, but like ANY family you've always got a black sheep or two.
But on a more positive note, the Masons are also volunteers in your community AND around the world. We are also an organization that runs leading medical hospitals devoted to children's care. Every heard of the Shriners? Those guys in little funny hats driving go-karts around, are also men devoted to a good cause.
Since, I can't speak for the entire organization or even honestly represent them well enough, I would direct you to look around on the internet AND your local library. Many websites online just fuel fires and spread rumors about cults and conspiracies. If you really want to know, just ask! Seek to find what you look for. I am sure there is a lodge or hall somewhere near your location, and it wouldn't be inappropriate to ask. They're more than happy to share and talk to you.

About the illuminat or satanism, I couldn't begin to explain. They have nothing to do with Freemasonry.

I personally don't care what they do. God pwns them, and no matter how they try to rule the world (or not, which ever case may be), God will always win in the end.

Oh, BTW- I know what Satanism is all about. However, now that I'm a Christian, I'm thankful that the numbers of Satanists like what I once was are relatively small, compared to the number of secular Satanists (whom are really little more than anti-Christian atheists). My great-grandfather was also a high-ranked Mason. Needless to say, his beliefs eventually was the cause of me being raised in a lukewarm pseudo-media-influenced sorta-Christian home... and the enimity between me (as a devout Christian) and my grandmother (as a 'I could care less' Christian).

Looking to put out a fire or start one?! Some people don't see the Illuminati in the Jedi,Satanists in the Sith, so how can they find the mystery of Freemasonry! Well, if they have computer access they just need to look...seek to find! Masonry is very much everywhere you look today! Maybe they just overlook it ?!

It's called willful ignorance. Everyone needs someone to hate. It's easier to hate the "devilworshippers" than it is to make an honest effort to understand them. Besides, it's a little more exciting this way.

The Freemasons are known to exist. You can still find people that will admit to being Freemasons. Satanism is just a state of belief.

The Illuminati is all kinds of bullshit.

there are various branches/sects of Satanism. they are no longer precisely an organised faith as such and might have differing rites and theological evaluations from group to group or sect to sect. purely as Atheists might have differing evaluations among one yet another.

Because they play no role in their lives. Just like most of us are ignorant of animal husbandry.
