They're either lazy, ignorant, don't speak English as a first language or suffer from a learning disability like dyslexia. Laziness, combined with lack of care and pride in themselves, is the only one that explains why people don't use the spell check.

If it's just the odd mistake then they could also just be like me - I'm a good speller so I tend not to check and sometimes the odd typo or mistake creeps in.

Yes, I agree that some of the spelling on this site is atrocious.
The grammer is equally bad at times. However, I have read
questions (and answers) from people who obviously don't
have a complete command of the English language, and I
hate when those people are criticized for using their limited
skills to the best of their ability. At least they are trying, and
I feel they should be commended for that - not belittled. ( I
wonder how many of us would be able to write a perfect
sentence in a language we are only vaguely familiar with....)
By the way, you never know, you may also learn something
from people who don't spell correctly. Give a break, please.
Too few of us do......
Peace

Yes. I have a thing where everything I spell has to be correct, if not I feel compelled to look it up. People who spell correctly on a daily basis? I think around 15% Most Americans are rather lazy.

As an English "ESL" teacher, I believe one of the reasons why people oftentimes have misspelled words in their messages is that, they are always in a hurry and doesn't proofread their works after typing.

Carelessness and the fast-phased environment also affect a person's ability to type words correctly.

But one thing my dear, I think the problem is not only in the spelling but also in the grammar. No offense meant, but your question - "Why can't people spell correctly ON here" has a wrong grammar, though it has correct spelling.

The right way should be;
"Why cant people spell correctly IN here."

God bless us :)

I believe it's because most of the young'uns today are fick and cannot be bovvered to learn how to spell correctly. A few years into the future i believe most people will not be speaking English but gibberish as most do already.

I know....it's absolutely appalling!
Please stop the text-speak - you have a full keyboard in front of you....use all the letters of the alphabet...stop and spellcheck if you need to....check your grammar....the preview is there for a reason!.....to stop yourself from looking/sounding like an idiot before you post your answers.....and start making sense!

It used to irritate me a lot, too. I'm an author's daughter, and I'm terribly picky about spelling and grammar. However, it's inevitable that people will use their net-speak and completely eliminate punctuation on-line, so I've chosen to suck it up and bear with it.

Have you considered that some people may have a disability making spelling difficult.
Personally, it's one of my bugbears too, but I have been known to indulge in cyberspeak for speed/convenience online.

People dont spell properly as its quicker and easier to use shorten words or miss out the vowels entirely like texts.
