Lol hair shirts went out about 500 years ago....you must have lots to be contrite about. Pretty boring today, you should share lol.

No, itchy clothing will not make you contrite of heart.
Realizing your actions are a crime against God, will... it's akin to realizing something so serious, you immediately choose to change... like you are taking drugs, and pass out... you drop the needle on the floor in your semi-conscious slumber... you open your eyes just in time to see your toddler crawl upon your needle, and have the whole amount pumped into his body... he starts having massive seizures from your drugs... and you are so sorry, ashamed, and guilt ridden, that because of your stupidity and self-centered attitude, your beloved child will die right there in your arms.
It is that kind of emotion that shows that you are contrite of heart. It is knowing that because of your actions, you deserve every ounce of sorrow and misery you get... whether it is punishment here on earth, or in the hereafter in Hell.
It is during this time, when you are broken of spirit, and contrite of heart, that salvation can truly take root.
