Worry about his feet. Yorkies have no blood flow there and they can freeze solid in 2 minutes.

I have 5 dogs. The boxer and the min pin just do not grow the thick undercoat that the other 3 do. For them, if it's a quick trip out, no sweater, but if we're going out to feed the horses or spend any significant amount of time outside, they get a sweater. Yes it looks gay but they really do need it. They will begin to shiver in a very short while. We're thinking of going with the doggie jacket this year so they don't look quite so stupid.

A dog that is in the house most of them time, I would. They are not used to the cold. Dogs that are outside a lot in the cold shouldn't need anything. I have hunting dogs so we are out in the cold all the time....They would go nuts with a sweater on. I have also heard that larger dogs handle the cold better anyway. How true that is I don' t know but....

I would put a sweater on the little one.....being inside all the time they are not used to the cold. It can be hard enough sometimes to get them to go outside to go potty when it is cold outside....at least make the trip more comfortable...it may cut down the possibility of going inside on the carpet.

that is not necessary. no matter how thick or thin the dogs coat is, it is protected from the weather. now that doesn't mean leave it out all nite when its 20 below, but just for a walk or to potty, it will be fine. chances are, it won't like the sweater on anyways.

His fur should protect him from the cold, after all, that's what it's for. But sure, you could get a sweater for him if you'd like. ^^

And of course, if he's an outside dog he needs to have a doghouse.

yes you should put a sweater on your yorkie . If you have one on then he should as well . My ex 's mother used to raise yorkies . She said that a good rule of thumb is if you are cold they are cold. Good Luck . I bet he is a cutie. my husband is going to get me a yorkie soon.

Depends on the length your out. A short potty trip doesn't require one, but any expose for a long time should require a coat.

Think and dress him like you would yourself. He's inside and is not adapted to the outside climate and neither is his coat - no matter how it looks.

A quick run outside - your a little chilly, but your coming back in the warm.
Waiting for a bus - I won't want to be stuck without a coat.

Best rule - treat him as you would yourself

Unlike humans dogs regulate their body tempature via their paws and panting. If you notice when it's hot outside and the pavemant is scorching most dogs will try to walk on the shaded part of the pavement. or when it's wet some dogs don't like to walk on the wet ground, grass, etc.

A sweater will help but dog shoes will help also keeping their feet warm and dry

Does he/she have fur or hair? I have a Yorkie/Bichon mix, who has hair, but not fur. He does get cold if it is below 60 degrees or so...I put a little sweatshirt on him... This seems to help.
