I have worn my hair long for most of my life, and as long as I use a good cream rinse, (I'm happy with Suave products), the tangles come out easily. I recently found John Frieda's Healthy Attitude leave in spray, (Strengthens and Repairs). Along with John Fredia's Spotlight sleeks and shine detangler, (Sleeks and Glosses). The 1st product: Healthy Attitude, also does a wonderful job as a detangler. I towel dry after applying Strengthens and Repairs, then apply Sleek and Gloss, (which I squeeze a little on my fingers and run my fingers through my hair and then I pull hair back with a hair tie, and go to bed. When I wake I remove the hair tie and find my hair still damp under where the tie was placed. I then lightly blow this area dry and add my 4 hot curlers. I divide my hair into 4 sections, and place a hot roller at the end of each section. This may sound complicated, but it's not really. It makes the ends curl ever so slightly, so not to look frizzy, or wild, and this leaves my hair smooth, and glossy all day.

My boyfriend is a musician... he has naturally real curly, long hair.

We have been together for years now & I have seen him go thru the entire offering of products from cheap to really expensive...

When using shampoo to wash his hair, he always has to use ALOT of conditioner and even then his hair gets dry, frizzy & mats up when he sleeps.

Here is what works for him & is what he always ended up going back to & now just simply doesn't try anything else.

Shampoo designed for DRY HAIR (he likes Pantene)
Wash with Shampoo only twice a week, otherwise only rinse hair with warm water every night

Almond Oil (bought at the organic foods store, but I am sure any almond oil work).. in a pinch when you simply can't find Almond Oil, try an extra-light olive oil.

He likes to warm the almond oil in a container with some herbs (you wouldn't believe the compliments he gets when he has added rosemary) and allow it to steep with the herbs to gain the scent, then drizzle oil over hands & run hands thru hair saving a little bit to rub on the last inch or so more heavily

Women & Men ask him all the time how he keeps his hair so beautiful... this is the trick :)

Pantene only coats your hair. Try a warming up some coconut oil and lightly grease your hair and scalp with it. Wash it off around an hour later. Then hydrate with a deep conditioner like Nature's Gate Biotin Conditioner (white can/blue writing). Then seal the shine and moisture with a spray of rosemary and chamomile or some really lightweight leave in like Paul Mitchell's leave in Conditioner. He's the man. Girl, forget all that cheap, artificial junk for your hair. Treat it right.

I have VERY curly hair... and it's all natural. Curly hair is prone to be a bit dry & frizzy. I have gone to numerous salons & have even gone to several hair consultants. What has seemed to work best for me is John Freda's Frizz-Ease products. He makes a hair serum that helps lock in the moisture to keep from drying, which makes the curls looks healthier.

As for shampoos to use, I was told that the after the shower product is more important for curly hair care than the shampoo & conditioners... If your hair is more dry than average try MOTIONS shampoo & conditioner. It is found in the ethnic hair care isle. Pantene also makes a shampoo for relaxed hair but does a great job holding in moisture.

Another tip for curly hair is to make sure you use a difuser on your hair dryer... if you can get an ionic one its ever better... I got it not to long ago & found a dramatic difference.

Good luck...

Two different products that work all too good. One is Amla Oil which is Indian Gooseberries and the other is Jasmine Oil.
You can find both of these at an Indian store or Indian grocer.

You see how beautiful Indian women's hair is?? Silky, shining and full of conditioning? It will do the same for natural curly hair.

When applying you really don't need much. Benefits of these two are great protein for the hair, promotes hair growth, and deep conditions.

there are a couple of different lines you can use. both are by matrix- one is curl life. i like the shampoo and conditioner. i don't care for the rest of the line though. it tend to be too much and can make your hair oily. then there is sleek. i love the whole line. it's normally used for helping protect and straightening curly hair when flatironing but it also helps control bushiness, frizzies, and relaxes the curl somewhat. these are the only two products that i found that i like. although every product works differently on every different person. so it's just a matter of finding what works for you by trial and error. you might try using the curl life shampoo and conditioner and then the sleek smoothing cream and serum. you should get exellent results.

I like the products from the Afro Kinks line. Go to motowngirl.com and you will find their ad. They make a terrific moisturizing/styling product called Growth Creme it comes in different fragrances: peaches & creme, buttercreme, etc. It's a great product. I usually use it to set a two-strain twist out. I spritz with distilled water as I go, just moistening each section before I apply the product. When I'm done (about 30 min.), I go to sleep on it. The next morning, I undue the twist for fullness and I ready to go. The product leaves my hair soft and supple, but with a good hold. Try it. I guarantee you'll like it!

IC Hair Polisher. It contains aloe and NO alcohol. It's a clear, thick, liquid and it's inexpensive. It's made such a big difference for my hair and my daughter's hair. I found it at the store right next to Pink Lotion, which I hear is really good too, but I'm really hooked on this IC product.
And a website I like is naturallycurly.com
It's an on-line community for people with curly hair.

I am African-American with naturally curly hair (no relaxer for three years). I use Pantene Hydrating Curls and then for Extra Deep Conditioning once a week I use Organic Root Stimulator Deep Conditioning. I double strand twist my hair every three days or so and I use a their Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion. I sleep with a satin bonnet each night.
