I have just flown to Belgium and back a lot of the passengers went through customs just waving thier id cards,I felt victimised as UK nationals have to stop and have thier passports checked,At the airport I think they use us poor Brits as a game like spot the idiot,Im all for security but are we right to feel victimised just because we do not have id cards.

The UK did not sign up to the Schengen Agreement whereas Belgium did. Those countries that did sign up to the Schengen Agreement allow people from these countries to travel within the Schengen Zone without passports. They only require valid id, which most people take to mean photo id that can be traced back to their home (e.g. driving licence, photo bank card). UK citizens need a passport.

I used to go in " waving my ID card " because I was Belgian .

When your father, or maybe grandfather and their buddies were in Belgium chasing the Germans out, they didn't have to show IDs to the Belgian customs people.
I wonder if Germans have to go through customs there.

Vote for another government, one who want to joy the European Community for full... Then you're free to travel in the Shengen area, and you don't have to change your money. Where are you British afraid of? Loosing identity? Which one then: English, Welsh, Scottish,...?

It's because you Brits did not want to be included in the Schengen-treaty. All countries that joined Schengen are free to pass eachothers borders.

So, it's not us locking you guys out...... it was you guys not wanting to join us.

Sorry, don't blame us.
Blame your government
