I just don't get why it's always celebreties and athletes and musicians who get blamed for the mistakes their children make. Parents need to pony up and take responsibility for their children and their actions.

Parents can only do so much for their children...their children have their own agendas....

I have read the recent answers and not sure whether to agree with any of them(not to sound sarcastic or anything). Some children have ADD/HD. Some parents aren't very educated when it comes to modifying their behavior. They will either yell, beat, or ignore the problem. Which also is not right. Some children may have underlying health problems that has not been brought to the parents attention yet. I do agree that parents today need to "pony up" as you say. Some just aren't as "smart" when it comes to child rearing.

I don't think celebrities are any better then anyone else.... no one takes any blame for their children.

I am actually get my master in teaching and this is a very big issue today in suburban class areas. I think it's the fact that children have become almost a status symbol and the my child is smarter, prettier, better dressed and better behaved then your child. Parents are move concerned with their kids having the lastest crap and what they are wearing then their education or behavior.

When they go to school is the teacher's problem.
When the kill someone it's the TV fault.
When they steal it's society...

How do you stop the cycle of spoiled self absorb adults living in their fake mansion- STOP from having kids??
Because their kids come out and learn to be just like them!

Agreed.
But you have to realize that outside influence can be very persuasive. Dont get me wrong, I dont believe that, for ex., a rap song about killing cops would make a perfectly sane and good kid go out and shoot cops. There has to be something wrong upstairs in the first place for a child to take all that seriously. As parents, we can do our best to raise our kids properly with the right outlooks but when they get older and end up with friends who are no good, all we have taught them goes right out the window. Peer pressure. So yes, parents do need to step up and take notice when thier child goes wrong. But when they start doing things like drugs or carjacking, a lot of times its peer pressure and bad choices.

You are exactly on course. Parents...ALL PARENTS...must take the responsibility to marshall the behavior and attitudes of their children.

When children grow into adults, it is too late to nurture behavior patterns.

Parents often live vicariously through their children, and it is hard
for them to admit that there are problems developing. The mature parent realizes that he or she has a narrow window of opportunity to help the child develop into the society, and this is crucial to the wellbeing of the child. (And, clearly, of society)

Because they would then have to admit their shortcomings, however slight, as a parent. Take it from me, not all parents with problem children are to blame, but they certainly can take steps to make a difference.

I agree. Most people are just too lazy to control their their kids. It's easier to give them some chocolate donuts and stick them in front of the tv rather then read with their child or go to the park. It comes down to people treating their kids like accessories - not human beings.

Most of the time the parents don't even know what the child is up to. They are too busy with making money or their new honey.

because the parent probably didnt want the kid or the parent can handle the kid. The parents think that want their kids can do what ever they do and when the do it they dont care about it

I think it is just the parents of the poorly behaved kids who do not accept their share of responcibility. Perhaps, that is why the kids are poorly behaved.

Because they think it is society's job to raise their children.
