ANSWER as to why do they?

I believe the Bible can be quoted as saying...1 John 2:15
"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

It is my believe that the translation of the word "love" used in this verse is the word meaning to put above God and that would be a sin.

That would be 1 reason why a Christian might say that.

I'm a catholic, hence a christian, and the way I understand it is 'it is not actually a sin to love the world' but depends on 'how you will love the world'. If you forget everything else and consume yourself on worldly material, it can lead you to sin - sin against God (abandoning spiritual obligations,etc...), against other people (abandoning social obligations), and maybe even against yourself, because your exchanging the rest of the world for material things that don't last (the best things in life are free). I guess the world there means the material world. But if you will love the world just enough and in the right way, I think, there is nothing really wrong there.

It's not a sin to love the world that God created. There are many beautiful mountains, trees, lakes, landscapes and oceans. There are breathtaking horizons and limitless stars. The Bible means that to love the things of this world, that is to put things (money, big houses, fancy cars, etc.) above loving God is sin. It's called IDOLATRY. You would be worshipping things rather than worshipping God - making things important and having little or no room for God.

In John 3:16 He gave His life so all people of the world could be saved if they would trust in Him. The things of the world are a lot different than the people of the world. Romans 12: 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Yes, God loves the people of the World, so much so that He sent His Son so that they could enter His Kingdom. Loving the World as far as Christians are concerned means loving money, power, possessions, fame, partners, all those things which people can obsess about and get distracted from listening to what God wants for us.

Here is the reason, and please excuse me from quoting the bible

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.

Hope this answers it, if a beleiver beleives this then this is the reason.

When the Bible speaks of "loving the world", it is taking about putting the sins, cares, pleasures, riches, etc. of the world ahead of God and his position in your life. That is a sin.

When it speaks of God "loving the world", it was His motivation to give Himself as a sacrifice to redeem it. In the process He remains in the proper position in your lives. So it is no a sin.

Anything that separate a person from God is a sin. For many people, "loving the world" does that.

No, no, no. It's not a sin to love the world, it is loving the sinful ways of the world: Homosexuality, theft, gluttony, etc. We are to hate the sin, but love the sinner. God, through Jesus, gives all of use a chance to repent and be saved. It is just that some are to blind to see this. We aren't to hate them, we are to pray for them. As far as further explanation of the ways of the world, read the Book of Romans 1: 18 - 32 to get a list of them all.

The world is looked at in two ways. The world ...meaning the earth and all the inhabitants... and The world..meaning the carnal secular, not spiritual activities of people.
When John 3:16 says For God so loved the world.... He meant, he loved the earth and its inhabitants.
When Christians say... love not the world... they mean... we are not to love the creation of God, but the creator Himself. We are not to love the pleasures of this world, But God.

1 John 2:15-16
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.
