Hi, i am a postgrad research student and i am doing some research at the moment and i have kinda a deadline for the middle of december. My question is that i am finding it increaseing hard to get the motivation to do anything ( im a little lazy anyway, but nowadays its just silly ).
I have also gotton into the bad a habbit of going to bed at around 2 am, getting up at 10 am and starting work at 1, and finishing at 5. I do get some stuff done, but i know i have the potenial to work alot more.
Can anyone give me tips on how to improve my bed times, and be more productive.

If you work well at night, there's no reason to go to bed earlier. But maybe you should consider doing some work at night, instead of knocking off at 5 pm. Do you have an idea of how many hours the research is going to take to finish by mid december? Divide that by the number of days, and set that as the hours you need to work each day.

You might find two or three shorter work periods each day easier to handle than one long one.

And, finally, you might want to examine the reasons behind your "laziness" It often looks a lot like fear of success; are you worried about what you'll do once you've finished this project?

instead of getting up at 10 am, set your alarm for 8:30 am, and GET UP. You will probably be tired earlier and this will allow you to start going to sleep earlier. Try to be in bed by 11 pm. You've just got to train yourself into having better sleeping/waking habbits.

Have a schedule for yourself of things to accomplish throughout the day - this should help with your motivation.

I would start by changing your bedtime 15 minutes earlier each day until you are going to bed at a time you consider reasonable. If you try to change the time by several hours all at once, you will probably just throw off your internal clock and feel worse. The average person needs 8 hours of sleep each day. That means you need to be awake for 16 hours each day! If you are waking up at 10am, then the logical time for you to go to sleep is, indeed 2am. Have you considered working at night? I, personally, am not a morning person and would prefer to work at night. Unfortunately, my career mandates that I am at work by 7am. I was in the habit of going to bed at 1 or 2am and had to adjust to getting up before 6am. I found that by changing my bedtime by 15 minutes each night it was quite easy to adjust to my new routine. I also try not to sleep too late on the weekends, especially on Sundays, so I am tired to go to bed by 10pm. I hope you decide to try it because it really works!!

well go to bed at like 10 or 11 so you'll getsome sleep and if you'll think you'll forget set a timer like 1 hour ahead.dont forget.
one question...........does it take you 3 hours to get ready?
if not wake up at maybe 11!

you've crossed the biggest hurdle, you realize yyour situation. the only one that canhelp yourself is you. you already proved you can accomplish your goals. your in graduate school. make the most of it. go to bed earlier, get up earlier. and get to work. before you screw up.
