There will never be consensus as to whether or not real vampires exist. Nor, I think, will there ever be consensus as to what a real vampire is.

In my opinion and experience, real vampires do exist. I am a psy-sang vampire. That means I feed on energy, and can draw it from others or from blood. Some vampires only feed on blood, some only on energy from others. Each vampire is different as to their feeding habits and how they determine themselves to be vampires. And, of course, some of the "vampires" are simply those who wish they were Dracula. Real vampires are not the things of myths and legends, but simply people trying to exist.

If you would like more information on vampires, there are several places to look. Specifically, I recommend Sanguinarius: The Vampire Support Page and SphynxCat's Real Vampires Support Page. Both of those pages are run by women who are very knowledgeable about real vampires, and provide a lot of information about the kinds of vampires. The other group I recommend is ShadowLore, which is an organization that seeks to bring all types of otherkin for support. While it is specifically for all types of otherkin, there are several vampires active in the group.

Hope that answers your question.

They don't. Humans can't live off blood. That's how
Themistocles committed suicide. By drinking bulls' blood. ( Plutarch - Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans ). In a society where everybody is or feels powerless, Bram Stokers' contrivance of a fictitious character who lives indefinitely is culled from probable eastern European superstitions which also smack of the old Greek myths where you seem to get something you may secretly cherish but there's a handicap attached to it so you don't offend the spirits over what a good time you're having. This is absolute nonsense. The real Dracula, and this is a focal point, actually did exist, was Vlad The Impaler. You're a smart kid, I bet, you probably even heard this but forgot. This was a time when Europe was highly susceptible to invasion from any number of Eastern Empires and Potentates. Vlad was, I forget, a high noble or such. He was successful in repelling either the Turks or The Moors. In a position like that you need absolute obedience from your troops and those around you. How do you do it? Machiavelli : " In a world where men are not good, it is better that the prince be feared. " Allegedly the man built a reputation for absolute ferocity. It sounds spurious. It is said he'd sit at meals with impaled bodies on stakes before him. A servant complained of the stench. He ordered the servant impaled but on a far higher stake so he wouldn't have to smell the others. Sounds a lot like what they say about St. Peter. He said he wasn't worthy of crucifixion, so they crucified him upside down. See where I'm going with this? You really have to be objective because men are liars. They often set their lies on beautiful pedestals. But they're still lies. ( Hope I wasn't being an A - Hole. Have a good one. )

There are people who do drink blood. It's kind of a fetish thing. Whatever works for them, I guess. And then there are the Vampire: the Masquerade players. And over Halloween there will probably be a surge in the vampire population, though they may be particularly short. And then there are your average, garden-variety loonies who bleive they are averything from Napoleon to Dracula. Those are all people who are vampires, by self-definition. Beyond that, I've never met one.

I agree completely with Saffyre. At the moment, I'm too young to know for sure whether I'm a vampire or not, but I do believe they exist, and I'm fairly certain a newly awakened vampire used to go to my school (I could feel him leeching of my energy whenever he was around, but it felt rough at times, like he wasn't counciously doing it). I have a few other sites you can look at to read up on it, but you'll have to decide for yourself whether you believe in vampires or not.

1) vampires like in movies and tv shows? not exactly.

2) freaks who think they are vampires like in movies and tv shows? definitely.

3) people who psychically "feed" on other peoples's energy, subtley, or not so subtley, with varying degrees of other abilitys that are harmful, or sometimes not so good, but not blatantly harmful either, definitely.

4) people who are both 2 and 3? definitely.

if you have anything more particular I might be able to help with, feel free to e-mail, :-)

I think that there are cult that drink blood and other gross things. And you get those people who believe that they are vampires, and they get the teeth, sleep in coffins, and drink pig blood.

vampire cults are everywhere--it's a religious thing, some take it too far. You can usually find one in any semi-major city.
