An emotional response to artwork is how it makes you feel. Do you feel like you could actually touch what's in the painting, etc.? Does it make you sad, happy, content, confused to look at it? All of these are factors in what makes an emotional response to artwork.

Great question! An emotional response to art is something that is very personal, it can only be described as something that you feel inside when seeing an oil painting. I have 2 big paintings at home that I bought online. They are handmade oil on canvas, I bought them because the way they made me feel and my emotional response to them was amazing.

An emotional reaction to a painting is if it causes any kind of feeling in you when you look at it. Positive or negative is irrelevant.
